The brief was modest by design, a resonant Independence Day film on a minimal budget. No large production crew, no location shoot, no conventional animation pipeline. Just a story that needed to land emotionally on one of India's most competitive content days.
The insight was to stop treating the budget as a constraint and start treating it as a creative direction. Rather than attempting realism on a shoestring, we leaned into a stylised visual language that AI could actually own, one that felt intentional and distinctive rather than compromised. A timeless story told through an aesthetic that conventional production couldn't have delivered, even with ten times the budget.
I led the creative direction end-to-end by developing the narrative, defining the visual language, and working across multiple AI tools to bring it to life. The result was a film that didn't look cheaply made. It looked like it was made differently.
It was well received and, more importantly, it proved something. AI-generated video wasn't just a cost-saving measure. In the right hands, with the right creative thinking behind it, it was a genuinely new storytelling format. It opened the door to an entire pipeline of AI-led production work that followed.
